Below is the screenshot of the Admin Index page showing the Product tab, for your reference, before it is discussed below.
The product tab contains all the links for the management of your products. The term "Product" takes a special meaning when used in our documentation. I speficially am referring to something that you would place in a listing. So it may contain several items. The links have been reproduced below, with more details regarding their function.
- Search for a product - This will take you through to the product overview page.
- Browse products by category - An easier interface for administration. It could well be the case that the front of your website is not as efficient for finding the product you require, as we are not trying to sell anything in the administration pages.
- Create a product - This is a fairly straigtforward name. If you have a new product to sell, you would enter the details on this page.
- Moderate comments - DAILY TASK - Here you can moderate any comments made on the website. To keep users happy they should have their comments moderated quickly. This should be a daily task for this reason. Comments can be made by users on your products, unless you want this function disabled. Since you would not want profanity on your website, then all the comments should be checked before they are published. That is what this page allows you to do.
- Product categories - This will allow you to edit the categories in which the products are classified. Products may be placed into more than one category, and a sub-categories may be created to any level of recursion. For instance the category "Prams" could be placed in a category called "Baby Products" and could contain a category called "3 wheeler prams".
- Product brands - This allows you to list the Brands that you sell, and then each product can be marked against a brand to allow customers to find products by Brand.
- Empty categories - There is no good reason to allow empty categories, as you will lead customers down a dead end. So this page shows any such dead-ends, you will then be able to edit your categories to prevent this.
- Special Offer Products - This will allow you to choose those products which are highlighted on the site, if any. How you highlight the products will depend on design decisions for your site.
- Bundle administration - This will allow you to bundly many products together, ensuring you are getting people looking at optional accessories for example.
- Vat Rates - Should the VAT Rate change, you will need to change it here. All VAT Rates available for your products should be listed and then they can be selected from a drop-down menu when editing products.
- Out of bounds charges - Each product can have a premium placed upon its delivery cost if it is out of bounds. The choice of these charges is determined on this page.
- Image-less products - If products details are added separately to their images it is possible that products are added without any images being added. This page shows those products which have no images. This is meant for the website only, as eBay images are dealt with separately.
